Joaquin Niemann turned pro before the 2018 Valero Texas Open by giving up his exemptions to the 2018 U.S. Open and Open Championship. In his first tournament as a pro, he came in sixth. He got Special Temporary Member Status on the PGA Tour for the rest of 2018 because he tied for sixth place at the Memorial Tournament. It was his third top-10 finish in only his fifth tour event.
